FAQ

When to collect urine for
the test?

Any urine specimen is appropriate for
pregnancy testing, but the first morning urine specimen is optimal because of
its highest concentration of hormone.

Can test results be
interpreted after more than 5 minutes?

No. Test results must be read at 5
minutes. Though a positive result should not change for several days, a
negative result may change to a false positive within minutes after the end of
the testing period, which would not be an accurate reading. It is always best
to read the results at the 5 minute testing
period and then discard the test to avoid confusion.

My result is Positive
(Pregnant). What should I do?

See your doctor who can advise you on
your next steps. It is possible to get a positive result and later find out you
are no longer pregnant.

My result is Negative
(Not Pregnant). What does this mean?

You may not be pregnant or the level of
pregnancy hormone may not yet be high enough to be detected. Test again in two
days' time. If this test gives you a Negative result and your period is late,
see your doctor.

How early can I test?

This test can be used from 5 days
before your missed period (4 days before you expect your period). However, as
hormone levels vary from woman to woman, and in early pregnancy can be very
low, you may be pregnant but still get a negative result.

How does the Pregnancy
Test work?

It detects the pregnancy hormone hCG
(human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) in urine. Test sensitivity is 25mIU/ml.

Can any medication or
medical conditions affect the results?

Always read the manufacturers'
instructions for any medication you are taking before testing. If you get
unexpected results you should discuss them with your doctor.

Medications containing hCG (e.g.,
Pregnyl® and Profasi®) can affect the result. Ectopic or recent pregnancy, even
if not carried to full term, can cause misleading results.

The test should NOT be affected by
hormone therapies containing Clomiphene citrate (Clomid®), common painkillers,
alcohol, antibiotics, or the contraceptive pill.

I previously tested
Positive (Pregnant) but have tested again and got a negative result, or my
period has started. What does this mean?

It is possible to get a positive
result and later find out you are no longer pregnant. This is called early
pregnancy loss which is sadly not uncommon, affecting around 1 in 4
pregnancies. Happily, most women can go on to have a healthy pregnancy afterwards.

How to make sure I am
getting the most accurate result?

If you want to test as early as
possible, but want to make sure you are getting the most accurate reading, test
the day your next period is supposed to begin - you will have a 99% chance of
getting an accurate result.

There is much difference
between the control lines of two tests. Is this a concern?

No. Variations in the color of the
control line will not affect the test result.

A pink background color
and vertical streaking appeared in the result area during the testing period.
Is this a concern?

No. Each urine sample will vary in
its chemical makeup, as will the humidity of the air in testing room. Such
variations in physical conditions can cause vertical streaking and/or pink-rose
background color but will not affect the test results. As long as the control
band appears within 5 minutes, the test is working properly.

Is there anything I
should do if I am planning to get pregnant?

It's a good idea to speak to your
doctor before you try to get pregnant. Many doctors advise taking folic acid or
prenatal vitamin supplements, avoiding alcohol, stopping smoking, and that
trying to maintain a healthy weight can be beneficial. You may also want to
consider using an ovulation test to identify your most fertile days
